It’s amazing how life works, isn’t it? When I was a wee lass, about 8 or so, I developed a mild form of epilepsy called Petit Mal. Due to being on lots of different medication – I was a bit of a crash test dummy for the doctors in Zimbabwe and at Johannesburg General, as epilepsy wasn’t a common diagnosis in the 80′s – I generally cannot recall too many of my childhood memories. Those that do stand out are of afternoons spent in the kitchen with my granny Babs after school, baking and icing cupcakes. I loved hanging out with my gran, and it’s where my love of food and cooking stems from.
National Epilepsy Week is coming up next week (18 – 24 June) and as someone whose struggled with the condition, I’ve taken up Epilepsy SA’s cupcake challenge and have pledged to raise awareness.
